Technical SEO, AEO & GEO specification

Everything in this section is new. It exists because the SEO team’s review covered on-page copy only, and copy alone cannot make a site “SEO ready from day 1” – titles, URLs, structured data and crawler access are decided at build time and are expensive to retrofit afterwards. Hand this section to the development team alongside the content.

Per-page URL, title tag and meta description

Title tags are capped at roughly 60 characters and meta descriptions at roughly 155, which is where Google truncates them. Every title below leads with the term the page is trying to win and closes with the brand.

  • Home – URL / · Title: “409a Valuation Services | Audit-Ready, From $899 | val409a” · Meta: “IRS-compliant 409a valuations built by CFA- and CVA-credentialed analysts. Draft in 2 business days, from $899. 2,000+ valuations delivered.”

  • 409a Valuation – URL /409a-valuation · Title: “409a Valuation: Cost, Process & Requirements | val409a” · Meta: “What a 409a valuation is, when you need one and what it costs – built by credentialed analysts, with an audit-ready draft in 2 business days.”

  • Embedded Derivatives – URL /embedded-derivatives-valuation · Title: “Embedded Derivative Valuation & ASC 815 | val409a” · Meta: “Identification, bifurcation analysis and fair valuation of embedded derivatives under ASC 815 – documented for your auditors.”

  • Pricing – URL /pricing · Title: “409a Valuation Cost: $899 Flat Fee Pricing | val409a” · Meta: “409a valuations cost $899 for most structures and $1,199 for LLCs. Flat fee, no stage-based pricing, no hidden charges. Other services quoted individually.”

  • Case Studies – URL /case-studies, each study at /case-studies/[slug] · Title: “409a & Valuation Case Studies | val409a” · Meta: “How we have handled 409a valuations, cross-border structures and complex instruments for real companies – with the outcomes.”

  • Blog – URL /blog, each post at /blog/[slug] · Title: “409a, Cap Table & Equity Compensation Insights | val409a” · Meta: “Practical writing on 409a valuations, cap tables and cross-border equity compensation, from credentialed valuation analysts.”

  • Guides & Glossary – URL /guides-and-glossary · Title: “Valuation Glossary: 409a, ASC 718, Safe Harbor | val409a” · Meta: “Plain-English definitions of the valuation terms founders, CFOs and counsel meet most often – 409a, safe harbor, ASC 718, SAFEs and more.”

  • FAQ – URL /faq · Title: “val409a FAQ | How We Work” · Meta: “How val409a works, who does the valuation, where we operate and how engagements start. 409a-specific questions are answered on the 409a valuation page.”

  • Contact – URL /contact · Title: “Contact val409a | Talk to a Valuation Analyst” · Meta: “Book a call with a credentialed valuation analyst, or reach us directly. Five offices across four continents.”

  • Legal pages – /privacy-policy, /terms-of-service, /security, /refund-and-refresh-policy. Titles in the form “Privacy Policy | val409a”. These stay indexable but carry no keyword ambition.

  • Form success states – any thank-you or confirmation URL must carry noindex.

Structured data (schema.org, JSON-LD)

  • Sitewide: Organization (legal name, logo, address, contactPoint, sameAs) on every page, plus BreadcrumbList on every page below the homepage. The Organization record is the entity anchor; everything else references it.

  • 409a Valuation, PPA, Complex Securities, Embedded Derivatives: Service, with provider pointing to the Organization and areaServed set to worldwide.

  • Pricing: Offer nodes for the $899 and $1,199 tiers, in USD.

  • Process blocks (1.5, 2.6): HowTo, with the document checklist as the supply list.

  • FAQ blocks (2.13, 4.6, 5.6, 6.5A, 7.4, 8.3): FAQPage – on the page holding the canonical answer only, never on a page that merely links to it.

  • Glossary (11.3): DefinedTermSet containing a DefinedTerm per entry.

  • Blog posts and case studies: Article, with author referencing the analyst’s Person record.

  • Team bios (3.4): Person per analyst, with hasCredential for CFA / CVA and worksFor referencing the Organization.

  • Testimonials: do not mark these up as Review or AggregateRating while the names are placeholders. Review markup on unattributed quotes is a manual-action risk and is not worth it.

Crawler and AI-assistant access

  • robots.txt must explicitly allow the answer-engine crawlers as well as the search crawlers: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended, Amazonbot, meta-externalagent and Bingbot. Many default configurations and several popular CMS security plugins block these, which silently removes val409a from every AI-generated answer in the category.

  • Publish an llms.txt file at the root – a short plain-text summary of what val409a does, the services offered, the pricing, and links to the canonical pages. It is a low-cost, increasingly well-supported way to give assistants an accurate summary rather than one inferred from marketing copy.

  • Submit an XML sitemap covering every indexable page, and register the site with Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools before launch, not after.

  • Set a self-referencing canonical tag on every page.

Rendering and performance

  • Server-render the content. Copy that only appears after client-side JavaScript executes is unreliable for search crawlers and largely invisible to answer-engine crawlers, most of which do not execute JavaScript at all. This applies particularly to FAQ accordions, the comparison table and the case study grid: the text must be present in the initial HTML, whether or not it is visible before a click.

  • The calculator is interactive and can hydrate client-side, but its surrounding copy, FAQ and disclaimers must be server-rendered.

  • Meet Core Web Vitals on mobile. The hero, the stat band and the world map are the three components most likely to cost layout-shift and largest-contentful-paint scores; size them explicitly and lazy-load the map.

  • Every image needs descriptive alt text – logo, world map, case study thumbnails, team headshots. Nothing that matters should exist only as text inside an image.

Internal linking

  • The 409a valuation page is the hub. Every other page links to it at least once using descriptive anchor text (“409a valuation”, “how 409a valuations work”, “409a valuation cost”) – never “click here” or “learn more” alone.

  • Blog posts link up to the relevant service page, and the service pages link down to two or three of the most relevant posts once published. Glossary terms link out to the page where the concept is applied, and pages link back to the glossary term on first use.

  • Case studies link to the service page for the work described.

Measurement

  • Define the conversion goals before launch: Book-a-Call submission, sample report download, document checklist download, calculator completion. Everything in this document is written to move one of those four numbers.

  • Track assisted conversions from organic and from AI-referral sources separately; referrals from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot arrive with distinct referrers and are worth isolating from the outset.

Appendix A: Keyword map (new)

Volumes are monthly US searches from the Semrush broad-match export supplied in the project resources. Keyword difficulty is shown where it materially affects how winnable a term is. The point of this table is that each page owns its primary term outright – no two pages chase the same phrase.

  • Home – primary: “409a valuation” (5,400, KD 42). Secondary: “409a valuations” (480), “409a valuation services” (40), “valuation services” (880).

  • 409a Valuation – primary: “409a valuation” (pillar, supports the homepage rather than competing with it – the homepage targets the brand-plus-category query, this page targets the informational and commercial long tail). Secondary: “what is a 409a valuation” (390), “409a valuation report” (170), “409a valuation requirements” (50), “409a valuation methodology” (50), “409a valuation process” (40), “when is a 409a valuation required” (40), “409a valuation safe harbor” (70), “409a valuation for llc” (20, KD 6 – very winnable), “do i need a 409a valuation” (20).

  • Pricing – primary: “409a valuation cost” (70, KD 18). Secondary: “how much does a 409a valuation cost” (30), “cost of 409a valuation” (40), “409a valuation price” (20), “cheap 409a valuation” (20).

  • 409a Calculator – primary: “409a valuation calculator” (70, KD 24). Secondary: “startup valuation calculator” (390, KD 28 – the largest genuinely winnable term in the whole set), “free 409a valuation calculator”, “company valuation calculator” (1,300, KD 44 – a stretch target only).

  • About – primary: “valuation firms” (390, KD 37). Secondary: “409a valuation firms” (50, KD 20), “409a valuation companies” (20), “business valuation firms” (170), “top valuation firms” (90).

  • Purchase Price Allocation – primary: “purchase price allocation”. Secondary: “asc 805 valuation” (70, KD 29), “ppa valuation”.

  • Complex Securities – primary: “convertible note valuation cap” (140). Secondary: “valuation cap convertible note” (110), “safe note valuation cap” (90), “equity valuation” (260).

  • Embedded Derivatives – primary: “embedded derivative valuation”. Secondary: “asc 815 bifurcation”. Low volume, high intent, almost no credible competition.

  • Guides & Glossary – primary: “409a valuation meaning” (30), “409a valuation definition” (20). Secondary: the full definitional long tail, which is where a glossary earns its keep.

  • Blog (post-launch) – “startup valuation” (590), “private company valuation” (260), “409a valuation startup” (90), “409a valuation vs post-money valuation” (20), “409a valuation vs fair market value” (30), “409a valuation how often” (20), “409a valuation expiration” (20).

Two notes on the data. First, the 409a cluster is small: outside the head term at 5,400, almost nothing exceeds 500 searches a month. That is an argument for winning the whole cluster comprehensively rather than chasing volume, and it is why answer-engine visibility matters disproportionately here – a large share of these questions are now asked conversationally rather than typed into a search box. Second, the adjacent “business valuation” cluster is an order of magnitude larger (2,900 for “business valuation services” alone) but attracts a different buyer, mostly small-business owners and litigation work. It is deliberately not targeted, because ranking for it would fill the pipeline with unqualified enquiries.
